Sunflower oil case
Big Impact. Real Savings.

At Van den Bosch, we believe innovation and sustainability go hand in hand. This sunflower oil case highlights how a fresh perspective and the right logistics solution can deliver both environmental impact and meaningful cost savings.

The challenge

The Turkish sunflower oil market traditionally relies on flexitanks as the primary export method, driven by their low upfront cost. However, this approach results in high levels of plastic waste and doesn’t always offer the best long-term value. Our challenge was to prove that opting for a more sustainable solution by using ISO tank containers could also be cost-competitive.

Our approach

Recognising an opportunity, the Van den Bosch team proactively reached out to the customer to discuss alternative transport methods in person. We demonstrated how ISO tank containers, when connected to the right trade routes, could offer both financial and operational advantages. We managed to ship their sunflower oil to Tema (Ghana), offering a rate that outperformed their existing flexitank setup.

The impact

The customer quickly became a recurring client of Van den Bosch and now relies exclusively on our services for all shipments to Ghana. By switching to ISO tanks, the customer eliminated the use of single-use plastic flexitanks, embracing a more environmentally friendly and future-proof logistics solution. By looking at the entire supply chain, the switch to ISO tanks also results in a reduction of the total cost of ownership (TCO).

“By moving away from traditional flexitanks, our customers do not only reduce costs but also make a positive step toward sustainability”
